Recognizing real Ray-Ban sunglasses

Ray-Ban is a very popular brand, best known for its sunglasses. When you buy Ray-Ban sunglasses, you buy very good quality sunglasses. This is also reflected in the purchase price of the sunglasses. Unfortunately, there are many people who want to make a profit from this. There is a big trade in fake Ray-Ban sunglasses. The popular models, such as the Wayfarer, Clubmaster or Aviator, are favorites to copy. Fortunately, there are a number of points that can help you recognize whether you are dealing with real or fake Ray-Ban sunglasses.

The price

It seems so obvious, yet it is one of the most important points to pay attention to. It is impossible to buy a brand new Ray-Ban for 50.00. However, a high price does not automatically mean that everything is good. Some sellers simply try to sell fake Ray-Ban sunglasses for 150.00. But in all cases it is not possible to buy a new Ray-Ban for a bargain price, not even abroad!

The package

The packaging in which the sunglasses are delivered always contains a number of standard items. For example, the Ray-Ban is packaged in a case, and the case contains a cleaning cloth with a Ray-Ban logo. Furthermore, the packaging contains an authenticity card and a warranty certificate.
The box in which the sunglasses are delivered always contains a red sticker with the Ray-Ban logo. There is also a gold-colored sticker from the Luxottica brand. This can be on the box or on the sunglasses themselves.

The pencil case

The cases of Ray-Ban sunglasses from after 1999 bear the text ‘Sunglasses by Luxottica’. In 1999, Bausch & Lomb sold the Ray-ban brand to Luxottica in Milan. The text on the case is printed in a kind of round seal. This stamp also contains the text ‘100% UV protection’,

The logo

In the Ray-Ban logo, the brand name is always written as Ray-Ban. So not as Ray Ban (without a line), or RayBan (together). The Ray-Ban logo can be found several times on the sunglasses.

On the feet

For sunglasses with slightly wider temples, the logo is written out in full on both temples. This is of course not possible on models with very narrow legs.

At the top of the right glass

The Ray-Ban logo can be found at the top of the right glass. These letters are always white in color. Of course, these letters may be missing when new lenses, for example prescription lenses, have been placed in the glasses. Furthermore, the nose pads in the middle of the glasses often contain the letters RB.

Very small engraving on the left glass

The left glass has ‘RB’ engraved in small letters. You have to look very closely to see these. This only applies to Ray-Ban sunglasses from after 1999. Before that time, the brand was owned by Bausch & Lomb. Older sunglasses have the letters ‘BL’ engraved in the glass. New Ray-Ban sunglasses are still being sold with the letters ‘BL’ in the lens. These are fake. All Ray-Ban sunglasses from after 1999 that say ‘Made in USA’ or ‘Bausch & Lomb’ are also fake.

Conclusion

If you want to purchase a Ray-Ban, it is good to pay attention to all the above points. Of course, it is always wise to buy a Ray-Ban in a real eyewear store, where there is an official Ray-Ban sales point. It remains a significant investment, but it is of course wise to do this in real quality sunglasses, and not in fake ones!
