Naming palm cabbage
The Latin name of kale is Brassica Oleraceae . Palm cabbage is a real type of cabbage and is, among others, related to the kohlrabi, broccoli, kale and mustard plant. In Dutch the plant is called palm kale because as it grows it increasingly resembles a miniature palm tree. This type of cabbage does not look out of place in the ornamental garden; it is an edible ornamental cabbage. Palm cabbage is also called black cabbage, because its leaves turn dark green, almost black.
Origin of palm cabbage
Palm cabbage is a type of cabbage that comes from the Mediterranean region. The plant has long narrow leaves like those of a palm tree. Palm cabbage grows up to a meter high. The leaves frizzle; they get the same curly shape as kale. Growing kale is not difficult. Together with the cabbage type evergreen, palm cabbage is one of the few perennial cabbages. Eternal mush can even be seen as a perennial plant. Palm kale does well in almost any soil type. The kale prefers to grow in full sun.

Eating tips palm kale
You can use kale instead of spinach. You can boil the leaf for a short time, but it is also delicious to stir-fry it. The grain is a bit tougher and is best removed. You bake these separately. Cut the grain into small pieces. It is delicious to fry it with an onion and garlic over a low heat and keep the lid on the pan for 10 minutes. For flavor you can add some fresh ginger and red pepper. Frying fresh turmeric is also delicious; you shred this and add it during the last three minutes of baking. You can eat the kale veins as a separate side dish or fry the leaves together. In the latter case, you add the leaves during the last two minutes of baking. In Italy, kale is a favorite ingredient in minestrone soup.
Palm kale against cancer
Scientific research from 1994 shows that kale, together with all other cabbage varieties called Brassica Oleracea, has a preventive effect against cancer. More specifically, research from 2012 shows that coal has a strong antioxidant effect; they capture free radicals that can lead to cancer. Cabbage varieties have the strongest anti-cancer effect when eaten raw. Blanching the vegetable is also possible, but cooking is not good for the anti-cancer effect of cabbage. These free radicals also cause other diseases such as diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. Free radicals can be formed in the body in several ways. They always arise during the digestion of food and the conversion of substances. In addition, an excess of free radicals can easily arise due to factors such as environmental pollution, pesticides, tobacco smoke and excessive physical exertion such as top sports performance. Various studies have been conducted that confirm that coal has a good preventive effect against cancer; both epidemiological studies and testing of extracts.
