History of Biodermal

Biodermal supplies products that have been around since 1975. Drs. Hans Schreuder launched his creams on the market that year. where he had his own vision and philosophy. He used the following principles:

  • Respect for the skin.
  • Respect for nature, which means that all products are not tested on animals.
  • Use of substances that already exist in the body or on the skin
  • Enjoy life

Omega Pharma

His wife Irene Schreuder mainly took on the commercial tasks. The Schreuder couple managed the Biodermal company for 25 years. In 2001, the company was sold to Numico Nederland BV. A reorganization followed and in March 2003 the Biodermal brand became part of Omega Pharma Nederland BV. However, they still work with the principles used by Schreuder.

The skin

Our skin weighs no less than 7 kg. and is therefore a very important organ. The skin is the important protector against bacteria and viruses that can enter our body through the skin. Some knowledge about the structure and good care of our skin are therefore essential. The pH value of the skin is its acidity. PH-neutral products provide good protection. All kinds of problems can arise, such as acne and pimples, but allergies or eczema are also known skin problems. You may experience bags under the eyes or stretch marks. Special products from Biodermal are available for all these problems. Our skin consists of:

  • Epidermis
  • Dermis
  • Subcutaneous connective and fatty tissue.

Epidermis

This is the outer layer of our skin that is made up of horny cells. These die and new cells arise from within. The dead horn cells provide natural protection against pathogens. But this layer also provides good protection against the skin drying out.

Dermis

The dermis contains the connective tissue, but also the lymphatic vessels and nerves. We also find blood vessels in the dermis. Constriction and dilation of the blood vessels regulates the temperature of the skin. Viruses and bacteria are stopped by the white blood cells. As we age, the elasticity of the skin decreases. This is important because the dermis does not renew itself like the epidermis.

Subcutaneous connective tissue

The subcutaneous connective tissue forms a natural separation between the skin and the muscles. It forms a protective layer around the organs. In some places the connective tissue is thin and in others it is thick. (Think of the shin or abdomen.) By respecting the skin, Schreuder means that the skin already has good properties in itself. The skin is self-healing and self-protective and we can stimulate these properties by using the right products. If we do this, allergies and irritations will have less chance.

Different skin types require different products

Not everyone has the same skin. There are major differences and biodermal products are also adapted to this. We can think of:

  • Normal skin
  • Dehydrated skin
  • Dry skin
  • Skin aging
  • Oily and combination skin

All these different types require different treatment. Therefore, ask your pharmacist or beautician for advice.

Skin care

Different skin types can be distinguished, but for each skin type it is necessary to look at the following aspects:

  • Daily care
  • Special care
  • Sun protection

It is important to exercise a lot and pay close attention to what you eat and drink. But it is also best to avoid air pollution as much as possible because it is bad for the skin.

Daily care

For daily care, it is important that the skin can retain sufficient moisture. Sometimes the skin is unable to maintain its moisture level, causing dry skin that can also become flaky. Moisturizing creams are available for this. Biodermal facewash is a product that regulates both moisture and fat during cleaning. PCLE cream is also very suitable for dry skin. But products that help prevent skin aging are also available. In winter people can suffer even more from dry skin and then it is very important to provide extra protection to the skin.

Special care

There are people who have very dry skin. They need separate products. But scars and pigment spots can also be a problem. Biodermal has special products available for this.

Sun protection

We know various products to use to protect ourselves against the sun, such as:

  • Sun cream
  • Sun milk
  • Sun spray
  • Sun mousse

After sunbathing we can use:

  • Tan prolonging after sun milk
  • After sun mousse
  • cooling after sun

Skin care especially for men

There are special creams on the market for men, such as the anti-aging gel cream and the energy gel cream. After shaving you can use an aftershave balm or a cooling aftershave.
